About 15 years ago, Martin shared his dream of opening a ski area with me, so I brought him an Areco fangun demo. He had a small snowmaking system set up to test snowmaking at a nearby site, now a golf course. In 2023, his long-standing vision will finally come to fruition with the opening of Hoedown Hill. When I first looked down the hill in May of 2022, I thought, “This is too big for a tubing hill.” After many video conferences and on-site time, we developed a plan to test out the tubing hill for the coming winter. CHS Snowmakers sourced the pump and snowcat to make snow so we could tube this hill. Three snowgun vendors came to the table and provided automatic fanguns. It will likely be the tallest tubing hill in the USA. In December, the hill turned white, a snowcapped Mount Hoedown. It was visible for miles, standing proudly on the High Plains of eastern Colorado. Our first tubing runs were fast but really good. Snowflex was invented in the 1990’s in England and gained popularity quickly. Most dry slope systems prior to Snowflex were based on molded plastics that didn’t offer good edging for skis and snowboards. The monofilament fibers were created on a “clean sheet basis” just for the ski industry. They create an excellent surface for the edge of skis and snowboards to grab. With the water misting system, the sliding is second to none. Snow tubes with the hard plastic bottoms work excellent and summer tubing is a big hit on Snowflex. Sleepy Hollow Sports Park in Des Moines, Iowa will be the newest Snowflex center in the USA. Tubing, skiing and snowboarding will be available. Chairlift Water Tender Rentals! August 11 update – We received our most recent protoype and it is 98% there. We have two corner seams to correct and the lenth of the Velcro straps. We will have our next prototype in the next few weeks. July 28 Update! We are very close to testing our final design. We will have a limited number of CWTs available for 2023 for load testing. If you are interested in purchasing 10 to 20 CWTs this year, please contact us. In 2024 we plan to be in full production. In early April, we debuted our Patent Pending Chairlift Water Tender and the response has been amazing! At the trade shows, our customers have shared their horror stories about load testing using trash cans that break, boxes with trash bags, and other random ways of adding weight to the chairs. One story stood out, a lift with trash cans that was nearly at capacity and it rolled back to the brake. It wouldn’t move off the brake and staff had to climb towers to get to trash cans to dump them. It was a three day ordeal! The […]
